Roy Schoenberg, MD, MPH, President & CEO, American Well Systems
American Well has created an Online Care system that allows consumers to connect with physicians immediately, whenever they have a health need, from their homes or offices. The innovation uses advanced Web-based technologies and telephony to remove traditional barriers to healthcare access, including insurance coverage, geography, mobility and time constraints. Online Care is growing rapidly and is currently offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Hawaii, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, OptumHealth (a business of UnitedHealth Group) and TriWest Healthcare Alliance.
The Journey to Improving the Delivery of Care Gene Lindsey, MD, President & CEO, Atrius Health and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates
Forty years ago, visionaries recognized that the problems in health care delivery could only be solved by reorganizing the resources of and payment for health care in a way that optimally balances the needs of the patient for quality care with the needs of society more generally. Today, this same reorganization is needed, and it must be led by the providers of health care. These issues cannot and will not be solved by our federal or state government. Changes in the delivery of care can only occur by leveraging the talents of each person who works for a health care organization and leading them to look at health care from the perspective of the patient. The job of health care leaders is to create a culture and vision that engages their employees in making these important changes.
